World Vision Australia’s Linking Hands
What is it?
Linking Hands reaches out to families and communities across Australia on a number of partnership programs, which includes Sydney Koori Leadership Project.

Sydney Koori Leadership Project:
This program is designed to help the inner city Indigenous youths in Sydney.

It is a 9-week leadership coaching program. A World Vision staff goes to schools highly populated with students of Indigenous background. The program includes two parts: address the issue of shame coming from their Aboriginal heritage, and leadership coaching through public speaking skills. So far, this program has been affecting students and young adults in areas including Redfern, Tempe, Blacktown, and Penrith. The best thing about this program is that it involves not just the students and facilitators, but also the community where the program is taking place.

Needs:

  1. Funds for the program & facilitators, food & snacks to provide for the students who can’t afford to bring lunch to school.
  2. Volunteers to work and help coordinate the follow-up programs.

Our Support:

  1. Raising funds (recently through a raffle ticket sale by RRH supporters who are participating in Sydney’s City2Surf fun run)
  2. Volunteering for the program
  3. Spreading awareness to call for more attention to care for local Indigenous communities
